The Allied Forces Foundation, Inc.

The Allied Forces Foundation, Inc. is designed to recognize and further the Steadfast Alliance of the United States and the United Kingdom, which nations' long history of cooperation and comradeship has most recently been tested in conflicts subsequent to the World Trade Center attacks of 9/11.

The mission of the Allied Forces Foundation, Inc. is to raise funds for Allied comrades wounded in these conflicts and to raise awareness of the ongoing challenges faced by injured soldiers and their families.

Honorary Chairman

Rodney N.M. Johnson is Vice Chairman of the British Memorial Garden Trust, Inc. He served as President of The St. George's Society of New York for the years 2003 and 2004.

Born and educated in London he completed military service with the Royal Engineers in Germany. He spent the majority of his working life with Jaeger, the international designer apparel company, leading the company through a period of substantial growth, as President and CEO of the North American Division.
Mr. Johnson was honoured, by Her Majesty the Queen, with an MBE in the New Years Honours list 2001, for services to the British Community in New York. He lives in Darien Connecticut, with his wife Jennifer.

President and Chief Executive Officer

Major (Ret'd) Stephen Patrick Cain, MBE is the founder of the Allied Forces Foundation, Inc.

Formerly of the British Army, and a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, Stephen is a fierce proponent of the Special Relationship between Britain and America, and the Steadfast Alliance of Commonwealth nations in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Stephen has been involved in Veterans' Affairs since he came to the United States in 1991, and has helped to raise substantial funds for British and American wounded in partnership with U.S. charities. Stephen is committed to raising many more funds and greater awareness of the reality of Allied wounded and their families.

Director and Treasurer

Mark Newdick is the Director and Treasurer of the Allied Forces Foundation, Inc. This role is essential to the smooth financial growth of the Foundation and the proper distribution of funds.

As a young man, Mark served in the Royal Navy Reserve aboard HMS Upton,
a Ton class minesweeper.

He is the Chief Financial Officer of the Krauter Group LLC, a full service insurance brokerage and risk management company, and for many years has been a very active supporter of Veterans' Charities. Mark has a son currently serving in the United States Marine Corps.

Director and Secretary/Assistant Treasurer

Jonathan Phelps Blum serves as Secretary and Assistant Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Allied Forces Foundation, Inc. Jonathan is also a piper with the AFF Pipes & Drums.

Jonathan is a nonprofit finance and administration executive with significant experience working with charitable organizations and civic associations, including healthcare, veterans services and service organizations. He has served as the executive director and CEO / CFO of a nonprofit health center and has previous experience as an investment advisor, trust officer, management consultant and banker. Jonathan is a graduate of Tufts University and holds a MBA degree in Finance from Columbia University. He is advisor to a Harvard Business School Scholarship Fund and a Fellow of the Explorers Club in New York. Jonathan learned his drill and piping with the Bermuda Regiment and the pipe band. He has played at many events for veterans and military personnel.

Director and Vice President, Events and Operations

C.L. Ox Gara uses his expertise in tour, concert and event management to present the Allied Forces Foundation, Inc. and the AFF Pipes & Drums in the best professional manner, and to ensure continuity of service to supporters of the cause. He is committed to educating the public about the allied efforts joining those of the United States' forces abroad.

Ox served for 6 years as scout section leader and armored vehicle crewman in the 26th Cavalry Regiment. Today he is the Assistant Technical Director of the Hartt School of the Performing Arts at the University of Hartford. He draws on over 25 years experience in the entertainment production industry, from short tours to large venue management. He is also a military and weapons advisor to the trade, and is honored to be the Drum Major of the AFF Pipes & Drums.

Director and Vice President, Marketing and Media

Mark A J Beaumont, a Briton who has lived in the United States since 1994, manages the Allied Forces Foundation, Inc.'s online presence together with the development of marketing, media and press initiatives.

Originally qualified in the visual arts, Mark spent many years in Asia before joining the Cunard Line in the USA as SVP with commercial responsibility for the line's eleven award-winning luxury vessels. Mark is involved with several charitable organizations in New York and is committed to creating increased awareness of the challenges faced by returning soldiers with both apparent and less visible injuries.

Director and Legal Counsel

Richard P. Terbrusch is a Connecticut Matrimonial Attorney.  His practice covers all aspects of family law including premarital agreements, high asset dissolutions and contested custody matters.  He is a member of both the Connecticut State and Federal Bars.   

Attorney Terbrusch graduated cum laude from Quinnipiac University School of Law.  While in law school, he was an Associate Editor of the Quinnipiac Law Review and received an award for distinguished academic achievement.  Attorney Terbrusch was also a graduate level guest lecturer at Western Connecticut State University. 

Attorney Terbrusch is an active member of his community, Ridgefield, Connecticut.  He served as Chairman of the Ridgefield Connecticut Police Commission and is a former member of the Ridgefield Connecticut Board of Education.  Rich was also in the Governor of Connecticut Horse Guards and is a keen and accomplished polo player.

Lieutenant Colonel G. E. Bennett

Lieutenant Colonel Guy Bennett is the Commanding Officer of the 10th Signal Regiment, British Army, headquartered at the Basil Hill Site in Corsham, Wiltshire. His prior role was as Deputy Military and Police Adviser at The United Kingdom Mission to the United Nations; advising United Kingdom diplomatic staff on security matters primarily related to United Nations peacekeeping operations.

He has operational experience in Afghanistan, Iraq and The Balkans.  In Iraq, especially, he worked very closely with US colleagues as a strategic planner in the Multi National Force Headquarters, Baghdad.

John Conlin

John Woods Conlin is Marketing Director of Suffolk Capital Management, a Wall Street investment boutique and has thirty years of financial experience, having created the marketing and client services departments of six money management firms.

A graduate of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, John served in the 6th Gurkha Rifles in combat in Borneo, while based in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. He came to the United States to manage the New York print, radio and television media services office of Sir David Stirling, the founder of Britain’s SAS regiment, before moving on to Wall Street. An avid military historian, he was chosen to explain the role of Gurkhas in the Burma campaign in WW II in an episode of Spike TV’s “Deadliest Warrior” which appeared in September of 2011 and he remains active in the welfare of Gurkha ex-servicemen and their families.

Brian Heriot

Pipe Major Brian Heriot served 25 years in British Army with the Scots Guards. He has travelled the world with the Pipes & Drums to locations such as U.S.A., Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Ghana, Bermuda, Russia and Canada. In September 2009 Brian led the Pipes & Drums on a 4 week tour of the States which saw performances on the USS Intrepid in New York Harbour, within the Pentagon walls and at the Walter Reid Memorial Hospital, Washington DC. More recently he led the pipers on the State Visit when President Barack Obama visited The United Kingdom and ended a glittering career on the Queen's Birthday Parade in 2011.

Brian has operational experience in Saudi Arabia/Kuwait, 4 tours in Northern Ireland, 2 tours of Iraq and 1 of Afghanistan. Primarily employed as a piper in the Scots Guards and subsequently the Pipe Major, between September 2007–June 2011, Brian has also served operationally in a number of roles including Medical Support and Intelligence.

Bob Kinder

Bob Kinder is a Senior Vice President at Drop Test International (DTI), a private consulting firm, specializing in advising the international community on security issues. A retired officer with over 23 years of service in both the U.S. Air Force and Army special operations communities, Bob has led numerous, joint combat operations in Panama, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He advised our most senior leaders in Iraq and Afghanistan, while serving with both the IED Task Force and the Army's Asymmetric Warfare Group (AWG), where he survived numerous IED and suicide bombing attacks. As the Senior Advisor for the Counterinsurgency Advisory & Assistance Team (CAAT), Bob provided the Commander of International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) – Afghanistan, with expertise across the full spectrum of counterinsurgency activities. His articles have been published nationwide and he is a regular analyst on radio stations across the country, providing expert commentary on America's national security issues. Bob holds a B.S. in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a Masters in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

WO2 RV 'Sol' Sollerer MInstRE

Sol has so far served 21 years in the British Army, in varying roles as a Sapper in the Royal Engineers; he is Commando and Military Diver trained. He has seen active service on UN and NATO tours of Bosnia, 3 tours of Iraq and 1 of Aghanistan. During his operational experience he has proven interoperability with Allied Forces, including in 2003, being attached to the USMC in Iraq to give Sapper capability and later that year Military Diving in Iraq with the US Navy Seabees. Sol was also part of an Iraqi Army training team on a subsequent tour, with US Army personnel also attached. Sol retires from the Army in 2012 after 22 years service and hopes to make a smooth transition to civilian life, settling in the Annapolis area.

Toby Tanser

Toby Tanser has an established name in the world of long distance running, first as an International competitor, then later as a coach. A board member for the New York Road Runners (organisers of the NYC Marathon), coaches advisory board for the Runner's World Magazine, Toby is also a coach for NYC's largest running club, the New York Flyers along with the Fashion Institute of Technology. Toby is a Vice President of the Achilles International having previously served as a board member.

Stuart Taylor (Ret'd Warrant Officer Class 1)

Formerly a Warrant Officer of the British Army, and now Owner and CEO of Stucan Solutions.  In 2011 Stuart helped train and deploy the Counter-Improvised Explosive Device Task Force prior to taking post as the Task Force Command Sergeant Major supporting 16 (Air Assault) Brigade in Afghanistan, working alongside U.S. and Coalitions forces.  After 25 years experience in counterinsurgency and counter-terrorism interdiction operations; Stuart and his family have relocated to the USA where he has established a specialized counter threat consulting firm advising governmental and commercial organizations in hostile environment activity and domestic security enforcement.

Ryan B. Weddle

Ryan serves currently as an Officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve, having served in the past with the Office of Naval Intelligence, Commander U.S. Seventh Fleet, and at sea onboard USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19), based in Yokosuka, Japan.

In the civilian world, Ryan works as an associate in the Global Loans & Special Situations banking group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he also volunteers on the Executive Committee of the New York Metro - Bank of America Military Affinity Support Group (MSAG), which works to support efforts in military and veteran hiring, public awareness and community outreach. He is also involved with other military and veterans groups including the United War Veterans Council, a 501 (c) 19 non-profit organization which is chartered by the City of New York to produce the annual New York City Veterans Day parade. He is also a member of the Naval Order of the United States, the American Legion and Gold's Dragoons. An avid student of military history, Ryan is a life member of the Company of Military Historians, and has been published in their historical journal.

Robert Shapiro

Bob Shapiro studied at Stanford Law School for his J.D., thereafter studying History at Harvard. Bob did two fields in American History (Colonial American History and Modern American History) and two fields in British History (Medieval English Legal & Constitutional History and Modern British History) for his Ph.D. in History. Bob taught History as a teaching fellow at Harvard, and was a Visiting Lecturer at Tufts University as well as being a Visiting Assistant Professor of History at the University of Hartford.
